I provide pragmatic and commercial advice to technology companies on the end-to-end launch and delivery of products to market. I’ve worked with smaller companies in private practice and have been in-house in large corporates advising on all areas of legal, regulatory and compliance. I’ve also helped take start-up businesses to scale and international expansion.

I qualified at Osborne Clarke and then worked at Thomas Eggar (now part of Irwin Mitchell) for eight years, initially as an M&A lawyer, and then the Commercial team. In 2012 I joined Centrica, supporting the residential energy business with their smart meter rollout and new energy initiatives before becoming lead counsel for Hive, Centrica’s Internet of Things business, helping take it from a start-up to an award-winning growth business with over 1.5 million customers worldwide. After this I moved back to the energy business as Associate General Counsel and part of the management team of British Gas Energy, tasked with developing a new agile and competitive energy business and migrating a 7 million customer base onto a new billing platform.

Legal Specialties

I have experience across all areas of commercial and consumer law, spending several years as lead in-house counsel for a technology business supporting all areas of its strategy and day to day operations. I have special expertise in consumer protection, customer segmentation and migrations, consumer credit, product liability, data protection and GDPR, cyber security, intellectual property, marketing and advertising and brand protection.

What Clients Say

That I am the “least lawyerly lawyer” they have met. I take this as a compliment as I like to be seen as a business partner helping clients understand the risks and issues, in terms that they can understand, and helping them navigate the best way through them.

Behind the lawyer

First and foremost I’m a a husband and a father and ensure that I give my two boys as much time as I can (whilst they still want it and before the XBox takes priority!). I am otherwise mostly in or on the water – I like to swim a couple of miles a week and to get out on my paddleboard when I can, but the rivers are getting busier since lockdown! Any spare time after that and outside of work is spent on my cars, Lego or a decent jigsaw puzzle....)
