Who we are
About Arbor Law
Arbor Law exists because we knew there had to be a better way to practise law. So we built a model that keeps the standards, judgement and rigour of top-tier private practice and in-house leadership, while creating a culture of trust, collaboration and genuine support, so lawyers can do their best work and clients get the full benefit of it.
What makes us different
At Arbor Law, clients work directly with City-trained specialists, many of whom have also held Head of Legal and General Counsel roles, so you get the judgement of people who have made the call inside a business and stood behind it, not only advised on it from the outside. That combination brings legal excellence, commercial judgement, and advice shaped by how decisions are actually made and then have to be defended.
We act for founders, boards, investors, scaling businesses, regulated firms and large multinationals operating in complex, fast-moving markets. The advice is clear, commercial and proportionate, and it holds up when the person relying on it has to take it to a board, a regulator or a counterparty.
For regulated businesses in particular, we can hold the legal and compliance picture under a single engagement, with one senior lead, one fee envelope and one point of contact for the board and the regulator: the kind of cover a business would otherwise hire a General Counsel to provide.
Our structure keeps that advice direct and practical, without the layers of hierarchy that slow things down or add unnecessary cost. Pricing is clear from the outset, and our lower-overhead model means clients generally receive partner-level legal support at a more cost-effective rate than they would in a traditional firm.
For lawyers, Arbor Law is a professional home for those who take their craft seriously and want to work with others who do the same. The people who join us are not stepping away from serious practice – far from it: they have earned their reputations and are trusted with the industry’s most demanding work.
They choose Arbor as a genuine alternative to traditional private practice: a premium model where the work stays high-calibre, but the structure around it is more transparent, more collaborative and better aligned with how senior lawyers actually want to practise.
Our model rewards initiative, transparency and the building of trusted client relationships. Every lawyer keeps a materially higher share of their earnings than at a traditional firm, and on a basis that’s simple, visible and fair.
Contribution is recognised not only through originating and delivering work, but also through collaboration, including referring matters internally to the colleagues best placed to handle them. In that way, lawyers build their own practice and the strength of the firm together.
We are deliberate about culture: respect for our clients’ budgets, for our lawyers’ time, and for the different ways people think, work and live. There are no billable-hour targets and no presenteeism, because the measure is the quality of the work and the outcome for the client, not the hours logged. It is a high-trust, high-standards environment where senior people share knowledge, refer work with confidence and are trusted to get on with it.
Our story
Arbor Law was built by lawyers who had seen the traditional model from every angle – at leading international firms, inside major organisations as General Counsel, and as clients seeking senior advice themselves. We knew there had to be a better way. So we built the firm we would have chosen on both sides of the table.
Our experience taught us that the quality of legal advice depends not only on technical excellence but also on the structure, incentives, and culture surrounding it. Too often, traditional law firm models place layers, rigid economics and internal hierarchies between clients and the senior judgement they actually need.
We wanted to prove that there was a different, more sustainable way: one that kept the calibre and seriousness of a top City practice, but removed the bureaucracy, misaligned incentives and burnout culture that define so much of the industry.
Just as importantly, it had to produce advice that is: clear and commercial, given by someone prepared to stand behind it, and respectful of the time and judgement of the person relying on it.
And so we built the kind of law firm we ourselves would want to work in and instruct — one that serves its clients as well as its lawyers, and one we could be proud of.
At Arbor Law, there is no hierarchy or pecking order. Every lawyer here is a senior, City-trained specialist, chosen for the quality of their judgement, the standard of their work and the way they collaborate with others. Clients deal directly with experienced professionals and receive clear, actionable advice from people who understand the commercial consequences just as well as the legal context.
Our lawyers join Arbor because they want to continue practising at a high level in an environment that is collegiate, rigorous and free from unnecessary internal theatre. They work alongside trusted colleagues, refer matters with confidence, and benefit from a structure that gives them autonomy without leaving them to operate alone.
How we work
Every Arbor Law lawyer is a senior specialist with significant experience in top City firms, leading boutiques, and in-house legal teams within major corporations. Most have served as Head of Legal and General Counsel – many at multinationals and publicly listed companies – or as trusted advisers to boards and founders.
This means that when you instruct Arbor Law, you are dealing with people who understand not only the letter of the law, but also the pressures and demands of running a business. We know that legal advice rarely ends with analysis: it feeds a decision that someone else has to take, defend, and live with.
Our operating model is lean and precise. We keep our overheads modest, our processes streamlined, and our teams focused on what matters most: the substance of the work. This lets us be flexible in how we charge, with pricing clear from the outset, while preserving the continuity and perspective that comes from working directly with senior professionals. It also gives our lawyers the freedom to shape their practices within a clear, values-based framework.
Our values
What sets Arbor Law apart from a traditional legal practice
Clarity
We communicate, price and advise with precision. Clients always know where they stand, and colleagues understand how and why decisions are made.
Empowerment
We create the conditions for lawyers to practise on their own terms, and for clients to access expertise that materially improves their outcomes.
Respect
Budgets, time, and different ways of thinking are valued. We are inclusive in our approach to colleagues and clients alike, with particular attention to neurodivergent perspectives and sustainable working practices.
Practicality
Advice is grounded in commercial context, not theory. We focus on solutions, next steps, and the real risks at hand.
Excellence
Arbor Law is home to senior, City-grade specialists who care about the quality and impact of their work. Many of us have held Head of Legal and General Counsel roles; we deliver the standard we once sought ourselves.
Collaboration
Arbor was not built as a protest against traditional private practice. It was built from experience – from knowing what matters most to clients and to senior lawyers alike: senior judgement, high standards and advice delivered without unnecessary complication.
In practice, that means two things for clients. You get direct access to senior support — the lawyer you instruct is the one who does the work — without the inflated rates that a traditional firm’s overheads build in. And it puts that calibre of advice within reach of the founders and fast-growing businesses too often priced out of Big Law by the cost of its inefficiencies.
If you are considering Arbor Law – as a client seeking senior expertise or as a lawyer looking for a more rewarding way to practise – you will find the calibre, seriousness and excellence associated with the top traditional firms, combined with a model built around clarity, fairness and the genuine partnership of equals. That, for us, is the measure of a better law firm.
