Alex leads Arbor’s Emerging Markets and Impact Investing Group and brings a rare combination of legal expertise, in-house leadership and founder experience. Over more than 25 years, he has advised private and public sector clients across technology, fintech, media, infrastructure, clean energy, real estate, agriculture and healthcare, in the UK and across multiple international markets.
His career has taken him from City private practice at Charles Russell Speechlys to Head of Legal at a major UK digital infrastructure group, General Counsel of an African clean energy fund, and senior adviser to a US-headquartered real estate fund delivering projects for the US State Department in sub-Saharan Africa. He also founded his own multidisciplinary consultancy focused on helping investors enter the Ethiopian market. This range means Alex understands how institutions, funds and founders think, because he has operated as all three.
Alex is especially effective working with clients on complex international transactions with multiple stakeholders, particularly in emerging markets. He brings deep sector knowledge, strong cross-cultural judgement and the kind of calm, commercially grounded advice that only comes from having worked at the sharp end of these markets for decades.
Outside work, Alex serves as an adviser and trustee to an international healthcare non-profit and social enterprise in Ethiopia. He is a semi-professional photographer and keen filmmaker, and loves spending time with his family in London.
